India says West has no objections to it buying Russian oil
NEW DELHI, Mar 15 (PRIME) -- The Western states are not unhappy about India buying oil from Russia, because its purchases from the Persian Gulf would drive the prices higher, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Wednesday.
"We are exercising all our options as a large consumer. We will continue to do that in the foreseeable future and by the way, the West is not unhappy that we are buying Russian oil because if we are not buying Russian oil, we will be buying more Gulf oil and the prices would go up," the official said.
According to the minister, India has recently started to buy more Russian oil, because the supplies are profitable.
